Eternity and Infinite Space

by Michael D Nalley   May 31, 2006

If a mile was an inch, or a second was a year
How far away do you think we would be from here?
If a dream were reality, and eternity was sublime
Would a random image have relativity in time?

If creation was the truth, and chaos was a lie
Could there be a place where a soul does not die?
The infinitely large and the infinitely small
Without direction leads to nowhere at all

Is every natural life limited to an end?
Is nature, by itself, always to us a friend?
Heavens to purgatory, must there always be pain
Must the randomness of my thoughts drive me insane?

The mortal man seems to have no time for infinity
But the wise leave a space in their heart for divinity
If a heart is empty it is impossible to live
As an empty vessel cannot possibly give

For time and space, in another dimension will merge
Where even the slightest imperfections must purge
In time and space, opposites will attract and meet
Until the mystery of creation is complete

I am so sorry for reading this later than I said I would.
If a mile was an inch, or a second was a year
[An opening line which makes the reader think and grabs their attention.]
This poem though it rhymes makes nothing seemed forced. I love how you use other wods instead of the same old same old and it's scientific in a way which is different than some I read.

I liked the second last stanza so much, I thought it would be better to finish with it, but nothing to subtract from a superb poem 5/5
    Good writing - DM
