A Kiss of Remorse

A Kiss of Remorse
[Bitter Regret]

Avoiding the lamppost's light
we snuck out the black back gate
Out into the darkness of the night
but words were lost, and love was too late.

Pressed up against the dark wall
I wanted everything, and nothing at all
I denied my heart as you offered your lips
But there was something missing in this kiss

It was a kiss of remorse
an act of bitter regret
and embrace of tragedy
That lost souls don't forget

Hollow love from torn hearts
Connection in isolating loneliness
We held each other close in desperation
But deep down, hate ached like daggers
It was only...it was only...
two broken hearts torn into one.

Guilt lurched through my stomach
As harsh anguish took hold of my heart
Your hands ran seductively down my arms
Your words severed my pride, to lust and charm

I sadly slipped lower into the feeling
my poisoned eyes, in agony tightly closed
I could not bear to look into your face
And see the same sadness, pain and shame
You stripped me from all my grace and dignity
To leave just one more scar, lost and empty.

It was a kiss of remorse...
a kiss of bitter regret.
an embrace of tragedy...
An embrace...never to forget.
