The moons lament

by ...   Jun 2, 2006

I watched throughout the ages
Ive seen the world around
From the greatest wall ever built
To treasures, by men, unfound

Ive watched the roaming dinosaurs
And ice age comes to pass
I was there to welcome into life
The first born blades of grass

I witnessed evolution
As monkey changed to man
And the other species catching up
As quickly as they can

I watched the cavemen walk about
With simple tools and mind
Unraveling the gifts of the earth
Amazed at what theyd find

I saw the ancient races
Rule the world with heads held high
The Romans, bent on conquest
And the Egyptians who reached for the sky

I watched these countless empires
Slowly rise and fall
Peasants wept for salvation
From the kings who had it all

I watched as women, in the name of god
Were burnt upon a stake
Children hung and sent away
For scraps of food theyd take

I watched the world grow and grow
Japan open its doors
And, from that moment on
Tradition lived no more

I stood by as countries colonized
No matter the sacrifice
I waited for it all to stop
But their hunger would not suffice

I watched the ozone layer crack
The ice caps start to melt
But nothing would ever be wrong
If the effects werent immediately felt

I watched them run out of land
Natural sources deplete
But, in their foolishness
They did not accept defeat

Soon enough, the world will fall
Right before their eyes
I was here from the start
And ill be here for the demise
