Heartbreak

by My Obsεssion   Feb 18, 2004

All it starts out as is friendship.
Someone you enjoy being around,
someone who can always make you smile.

Then you see them in a whole new light.
One day he’s a friend,
and the next day he’s not.

It used to be just chance running into him.
Now you do all you can just for an excuse,
to say hi and smile at him.

Then one day the relationship changes.
You go to look at him as usual,
and you find him looking back at you, smiling.

This time when you flirt with him,
he flirts back.
Sometimes he’s even the one to start it all.

And you just soak up all the attention like a sponge,
until you become bloated with confidence.
Finally, all your feelings may be returned.

But then the day to be wrung out comes.
He’s seen with another or two,
giving them the same looks he was giving you.

The least he could have done was given you a chance to beg,
before he ripped your heart out,
and mashed it on the floor.

Your heart shatters into a million pieces,
that pierce you like needles.
It’s all you can do just to look away.

How could you have been so stupid?
What were you thinking?
How could you ever even think he might have liked you?

But there was no way you could have misunderstood those looks,
because they were the exact ones you always give him.
He was doing the exact same thing to you as you do to him.

Now you’ve been given a piece of the prize.
You’ve had a small taste of more to come,
and had it taken away when you were only half finished.

You’ve tasted the sweetness of having him,
and now you’re addicted to it.
It’s a craving you can’t resist and will stop at nothing to get.

There is only one hope to mend your heart,
one person that can put it back together piece by piece,
and he’s one in the same as the one that did this to you.

So what do you do?
There really is nothing you can do,
you want to get over him but you can’t.

Even though it seems impossible, you’ll live.
Just go on living life day by day,
besides, tomorrow’s a whole new day!
