Hating One's Own Kind

by david kessel   Jun 3, 2006

To hate another kind is somewhat known,
And it is frowned upon by folks refined,
But less discussed is hating our own:
No qualms for those despising own kind.

The poor deride the wretched "even poorer",
The blacks resent those blacker than they are,
The ignorant, in order to feel surer,
Scorn those below their bungling, paltry par,

The whites, afraid of being labeled "racist",
Turn guilty smiles upon the brown and black,
While making squeamish and disdainful faces
Upon "white trash", who now gets the flack.

And none of that political correctness
Will rescue those who are thus maligned
In blatant and deliberate directness,
And "courtesy" of their own kind.
