Sleepless Thoughts

by enfant du tordu chagrin   Jun 3, 2006

It's 5 in the morning and I'm sitting here awake
Trying every trick I know to be rid of this dull ache
So many thoughts assailing me, battering at my mind
As I sit and search in vain for that I cannot find

Peace, why hast thou forsaken me? Calm, where have you fled?
Each precious drop of understanding, from my mind has bled.
Harmony I've heard of you, of Joy I've slight recall
So why, oh why is it you've fled, valued companions all

My memories, my hopes, all are tumbling through my brain
And who could have prophesies-ed they'd cause me so much pain
The good times that I recollect seem so bland and dull
While the bad become more real to me as they perform this mighty cull

Though sleep will come to me in time, it seems this night is lost
And throughout the day ahead I know I'll feel it's cost
But this is of little import, much more worrying to me
Is though I've striven to comprehend, still I cannot see.
