Sunlight

by Mike Johnson   Jun 5, 2006

Rays of light pour through the window
miss my eyelids, I awake.
Try to step into the sunlight,
but its warmth I cant embrace.

Sunlight shining off their faces
All Ive ever known and seen
Basking in this blaze of buoyance
Separate yourselves from me.

I feel nothing, all the while growing old,
the sun is shining, yet Im growing cold,
all created equal, or so were told,
as the freezing darkness tightens its hold.

What is a life worth living for,
when all I want is for the light to pour
on my face, I just want to feel this warmth,
but it seems my sun doesnt shine anymore.

Suddenly a sunspot glaring
Cross my eyes, I turn to see
Your eyes, offering a remedy
Take my hand, share light with me.

Your veins run with soothing fever
Frost comes melting off my skin,
One more joins the blazing masses
One more defeats the shadows.

For a moment.

Your touch has lost its saving warmth
But your lights still shining on me
You retell your old intentions
My lost hope built was built on sand.

The offer stands as it always has
The freezing inferno is mine to hold
Im awarded the blinding light
Coupled with my long lost cold.

Never realized such confusion
never had a chance to lose
This light thats made me so complete
I just dont know what to do.

Its too perfect to let go,
too tainted to hold on to,
Embrace the icy sunshine
Step back into the shadows.

Goodbye Mrs. Sunshine
I cant keep up this affair
The pain I feel when were apart
Is a pain that isnt shared.

Walk away, dont look back.
Try to run away, I cant look back.
Hello darkness.
