A Bittersweet Victory

Cut out my heart and show the world.
Another tragic story of another tragic girl.
Tear out my hopes and throw them away.
Tell all the kids all the words I can't say.
Give them a sheet to cover their soul.
Show them a way to pretend that they're whole.
Teach them excuses and lies to be told.
Tell them the ways to make themselves feel bold.
Paint them a face to put on by their friends.
Make them a list of the latest trends.
Turn them into what you think they should be.
But I bet they'll still turn out like me.
