Memories of a Rose

by Hilary   Jun 8, 2006

I remember back
On more comforting times...
When I knew if I faced pain,
You'd be by my side.
I can recall all of our quarrels
Our silly little fights...
The days we tried to survive,
The restless, sleepless nights.
I always knew, no matter what
You'd be there when life got rough...
When I felt so terribly weak,
You'd stand tall and tough.
I could live with the knowledge
That I'd soon hear a knock on the door...
The scent of flowers would overwhelm me,
Just like they did before.
You tried so hard to cheer me up
To share with me your love...
But I lost my friend, my angel,
When you were called above.
Now, I secretly wait in tears
As flowers line your grave...
Immortalizing you, in heart and soul,
For the endless devotion you gave.
Your smile shines brightly
In the frame hung on my wall...
Every morning, I pray before it,
As a single tear falls.
I know you're looking down on me
And that I must let you go...
Clutching on to the memories
Held in an old, dried white rose.
