The Most Dangerous Game

by Poetess Lana   Jun 9, 2006

I ran up the stairs into the attic,
and hid in the closet, gasping for breath. A voice sounded from below me. It was muffled, yet dangerous all the same...

A few seconds passed.
Then, I heard footsteps on the
stairs. I wanted to call out, "Who's there?" but for fear of being caught,
I stayed where I was.

The footsteps got closer.
I held my breath.
Everything started to brighten
as the door opened above me....

and then... a scream.

"I found you Mommy!"
my three year old cried,
jumping into my arms.
Of all the games we play
together, Hide and Seek
is the most dangerous of all.

I like the build up in this poem as it leads you rite through to an unexpected end. Wonderfully expressed.
