Pebbles

by Rachel   Jun 13, 2006

The sea laps at the sand
Pulling little rocks with it,

Little rocks that were once great stones
That towered over man,

Boulders that once sheltered men and women
Whose stories have long since been forgotten,

Though their lives are still there
Like rocks on the beach,

Their rocks are gravestones
With inscription that has faded away
With the passing of time,

Someday I will be nothing more
Then a pebble on the great earth's beach,

As I get older my rock will slowly erode away
Until it can contain me no more
And I become a wandering soul,

My spirit will float on the wind
Watching the world repeat the same mistakes,

I will hear no whisper of my name
For I doubt that I will always be remembered,

I can only hope
That when someone walks by my gravestone
And sees my name on it,

They will know that I lived.
