There has to be more

by Shelby Smith   Jun 15, 2006

The darkness of the night brings loneliness to the room
A silent tear runs down
the innocent face of a child

She cries to herself
mourning the loss
of the pride she once had,
Sheltering herself from her surroundings

Afraid of rejection
she hides the person
that she longs to be
Struggling to find
the importance she holds
She merely longs for acceptance.

She feels so different from the world
Dreaming of her future
and longing to find her place
She just wants to know
that there is something more

A mere child
with only dreams and
wishes to guide her way
She wants to know that
she holds meaning,

Prove to the world what she is worth
But for now the world
shall stay ignorant
for the ones close to her
see what everyone else cannot

The ambition in her eyes
The intentions of her heart
And the purpose of her
well being.

One day she will change the world
But until then she merely
searches for something taht can
make this life worth living.
