Good Luck, You Two!

by david kessel   Feb 22, 2004

Hello, my darling lovey-dove!
I know what you\'re thinking of -
You think you\'re gonna fall in love
And taste the sweetness thereof.

So young you are, and so naive,
In Love Forever you believe,
You\'re high on love and low on cash,
An easy victim of a \"mash\".

What I will say may not be nice,
But I will give you one advice:
Remember this, my lovey-dove-
\"There is no happiness in love\".

There is rejoicing, mirth and glee,
And joy and great hilarity,
Euphoria and jolli-ty,
Elation, boyance, gaiety...

In love, there is exhiliration,
Ebullience and animation ,
Good cheer, laughter, relaxation,
Enchantment, frenzy, exhaltation...

A great and wondrous, joyful feeling ,
But you will hit a tough glass ceiling
If you will try to move above
The pleasure at the top of Love.

Romantic love was just designed
To help regenerate Mankind,
To make you mate and to conceive,
Repopulation to achieve,
On babys\' butts to put a nappy,
But not to make you truly happy...

It does not feel this way , I know,
When with great love you overflow:
You feel all powerfull and mighty,
Your girlfriend looks like Aphrodite,
You stammer, drool and shake and blush,
Hot passions through your body rush;
\"It\'s love\", you think, \"It aint\' no crush\"
As from your lips endearments gush...

The love you feel seems all eternal
To lose it would just feel infernal .
The one you love becomes a numen
And you forget she's only human,

And she\'ll get old and fat, and gray,
And then there will arrive a day
When warts will grow on her nose,
Arthritis will distort her toes...
Will you be feeling love for her
When all those ugly things occur?

Will you still find her as appealing
As she is now, will you be feeling
The same intense and urgent awe
As if she had no earthly flaw?

And if a year down the road
Some other girl will try to goad
You into loving her instead?...
Who knows what may lie ahead?

O\'er so many hopeful lovers
The threat of separation hovers.
So many loves end in divorce
And alimony and remorse...

I wish you luck
And hope that you
Have found the love
That\'s strong and true,
But I will still maintain one thing:
True happiness it does not bring.

But then again, it might as well
Just make you happy, what the hell?
Maybe, for once you have discovered
A love that makes you feel empowered.

So who am I to be your judge?
True love is kind of hard to fudge,
And it just seems to me that you
Have found the love
That very few
Can ever wish and hope to find.
Just go for it
And never mind
What fools like me
Might say to you...
So, I\'ll just say:
"Good luck, you two"!
