Anthem of a Broken Heart

Anthem of a Broken Heart
Collab w/ Steve Flash

If my heart played a song
What music would be heard
Maybe the whisper of a breeze
Or the chirping of a bird

Would it play all the joys
Of lively summers passed
Roller-coaster ride screams
Bonfires burning out too fast

Soccer games; ice cream melodies
Laying hand in hand on the smooth grass
Stars outshining the city lights
Staring all night at the sky of glass

Maybe a Christmas carol
would suit my heart's request
Crystal flakes dancing in air
Snowmen fully dressed

Sledding down a sugar glazed hill
Wrestling with balls of snow
Waiting to get back to the warmth
to make love, soft and slow

My heart might sing a song
With vivid colors and hues
Cascades of flailing leaves
Presenting a pleasant view

Prolonged hayrides at midnight
With candy crazed kids
Camping out all weekend
Not caring what mom forbids

An orange sunset beyond the clouds
Might inspire my heart's tune
or the intoxicating scent
Of fresh flowers bloom

A long walk in the park
Followed by a kiss in the rain
Going fishing in the dark
Could build this song's refrain

Yet these are only memories
in my mind; they'll disembark
Blending together to form
The anthem of a broken heart

"you don't know what you have, until it's gone"

*drop a line, I'll holler back*

Beautiful poem showing the fun times and maybe what had been snatched away to leave behind a broken heart.
