The Changing of Leaves Means ONE Thing to Me

by Poetvoices   Jun 19, 2006

The battle paint is put on.
The men are armored up.
There's a buzz about the village.
We're discussing the bittersweet lineup.

There's screaming all around the battlefield,
some more than others.
Wives, mothers, and sisters hiding their eyes.
They can't bare to keep track of their husbands, sons, and brothers.

We locals cheer as the battle begins
and our side has won the toss.
We HAVE to won THIS battle.
We can't handle an early loss.

There's madness all around us,
and most of it's for one reason.
That reason's simple and easily related to.
The beginning of football season!

Haha, gotta love surprise endings. I like this, it's got a good flow to it as well which a lot of the poems in this category seem to lack.
