You As My Friend

by XxMakeDamnSurexX   Jun 20, 2006

You taught me to be honest
You taught me to build trust
You showed me that its better
To have love instead of lust

You protected me from things
But made me wary just the same
And in return I helped you
And your wild ways to tame

You traded in your bottles
Replaced them with something new
A secret message between only us
And no one had a clue

All of our secrets spilled out
With contempt inside a car
We talked about our self-respect
And how to raise the bar

Making serious promises
With pinkies like a child
Cherishing every waking moment
And each and every time we smiled

Having you as my friend
Closer than my own blood
My life preserver and safety
Through this symbolic flood.

I could never ask for more
Than your friendship in return
Because you're really the one
Who taught me how to learn

I love you more than words can describe
Or even begin to portray
I'll always love you no matter what
Every minute of every day.
