A toast to the past

by Julia   Jun 21, 2006

We had our faults, which we chose to ignore.
We closed the once open and waiting doors.
We then proceeded to take the last trail,
One clouded by shadows, hidden by dark veils.

As we both walk slowly on the trail of death,
As we both, together, breathe our final breaths,
As we both shudder from weights we both hide,
Our hearts both sing, as they both slowly die.

Songs of a language that we both forgot,
But remembered once we heard it on the spot.
Songs sung of love and a grace lost in time,
Replaced with jealousy, hatred and crime.

"Heres to the past, although now its long gone,
Heres to the past, before our love was wronged.
Heres to the past, with its glimmering veil,
Heres to the past, we now bid thee farewell.

"Heres to the smiles and laughs that we shared,
Heres to the times when we caressed and cared.
Heres to the memories we shan't forget.
Heres to the past; which we should not regret.

"Heres to the past, a place we still explore.
Heres to the past, when we loved so much more.
Heres to the past, which sickened on the way.
Heres to the past, the most forgotten days.

"Heres to the past, which we both tried to hide,
Heres to the past, which now we try to find.
Heres to the past, which is fading each day.
Heres to the past, that suffers from decay.

"Heres to the past, which we both miss so much,
Heres to the past, which we both try to clutch,
Heres to the past, which slips through hands like sand,
Heres to the past, a dying sacred land.

"Heres to the past, which sometimes we may blame,
Heres to the past, which reality stained,
Heres to the past, abused and kicked around,
Heres to the past, we drove straight underground.

"Heres to the past, flashing before our eyes,
Heres to the past, which we did not survive,
So a final toast, now please just let us go.
Separate from us and lift up our souls."
