The Simple Things

by Michelle   Feb 23, 2004

Just the simple things, Sweetheart
Are what I'm yearning for
For you to be a gentleman...
Maybe open up my door?
When I come home some afternoon
After a long and stressful day,
For you to offer me a hug
And sweep those cares away.
We would talk about most everything
And we would be so comfortable,
That we wouldn't feel the need to fill the silence
When the conversation might lull.
If some occassional weekend
We might decide to see a show,
You'd be there to laugh and cry with
Og course, in the back row!
For you to sit with me in the evening
As we sprawl together on the couch...
I might even fall asleep
As against your chest I slouch.
And when it's late at night
And we lazily move up to bed,
I'll snuggle in so close to you
And have a place to lay my head.
A walk in the cool evening air
Your fingers intertwined with mine,
These are the tiny, simple things
That would make my world sublime.
Strong arms to hold me close,
When a nightmare has me scared,
Tell me it was just a dream
And gently stroke my hair.
And when tragedy might come
As it always does eventually
You there right beside me
To dry my tears and comfort me.
You would be my rock,
My link to solid ground,
When the storms of life
Are tossing me around.
There are so many little things
That would bring a twinkle to my eye.
And all of them are qualities
That money cannot buy.
Please don't think I'm selfish
For though I don't have monetary wealth
All these things and more I'd share with you
I'm not wanting them just for myself.
