Reunited to late

by Krissey   Jun 24, 2006

The love of my life was in every picture frame
I loved how he held me and gave me a nickname
But those long weekend trips were getting to be too much
My baby was always taken away from me and I always missed his touch

I'll always remember that Friday morning,
Of what was yet to come, I had no warning.
He was leaving for Japan, to make a business deal,
I'd never see him again, and now it all seems so surreal.

He didn’t even have the courtesy to call
Left me here to just crash and stall
I wasn’t even sure if he was alive or dead
He doesn’t even know of my worrisome nights in bed

A few terrible years after that went by,
Until I met this incredibly sweet new guy.
He proposed and I married this man named Ray,
We had three beautiful children, James, Abbey, and Tay

I loved being a mom, holding them in my arms
Grocery shopping for animal crackers and Lucky Charms
Each day with my kids I experienced something new
And this one day, something happened out of the blue
.

I walked into the Starbucks, to get my morning coffee.
When out of the corner of my eye.. who did I see?
Yes, it was him, the man who left me years ago.
My coffee hit the floor; my skin no longer had a golden glow.

All of a sudden the memories just flashed through my mind
But I had to keep telling myself, everything got great over time
Unfortunately he saw me, oh his dimples caved in
I tried not to go weak at the knees by his still handsome grin

He walked over and handed me some napkins for my shoes,
I quickly mumbled a “thank you,” forcing my mind not to muse.
“How've you been?” he asked and looked me in the eyes.
“I - I've got to run,” I stuttered, and dashed away from the surprise.

I shut Starbucks door and placed my hand over my head
Wow after all these years I thought the man I loved was dead
Just for those few seconds, I felt the love once more
But the man I love now, I just couldn’t ignore
