Glass Cases

by Flying Phoenix   Jun 24, 2006

In the museum lay halls of objects
Glass cases protecting the fragile
The broken, the ancient past
Whilst you wander, look
And note
Not all things can last

Those fruits the Romans
Ate for their breakfasts
Cannot survive behind here
The simple words
That wise caveman spoke
Are no longer clear

Gaze around at the history
Through those protected
Read and understand
But never touch

You cannot hold those
Fragments of the past
You can no longer
Claim them to be yours
Behind those glass cases
Lie objects, memories, times
That cannot exist
Now
Pause
And think
Remember and record
Hidden behind those cases
Those secure glass cases
Are times now gone
Forever
