After a While

by Steph   Jun 25, 2006

After a while you learn the subtle
difference between holding a
hand and linking a soul.

And you learn to build all your plans
on today because tomorrows
ground is too uncertain.

And you learn that love doesn't
mean forever and company
doesn't mean security.

And you learn that kisses aren't
contracts and that presents aren't
promises.

And you being to accept your
failures with the grace of an
adult, not the grief of a child.

And you learn that shooting stars
don't always make you wishes
come true.

After a while you learn that even
sunshine burns if you have to
much of it.

So plant you own garden and
decorate your own soul, instead
of waiting for someone to bring
you flowers.

And you learn that you really can
sustain,
you really are strong,
you really do have worth.

And you learn, and you learn
with every good-bye, heartbreak
and failure,
you learn.
