Emptiness

by Steve V   Jun 25, 2006

Being whole one day, doesn't mean the next will hold true
When a plummeting feeling that strikes at the soul
And releases a sigh felt deep in the heart
You then try to grasp at what strains you
But only to find a darken, empty void, hallowed and cold
It echoes in despair and entertains the hurting
This numbness is much stronger & resilient
Than even the intellect can conquer and annihilate
As much as you attempt & struggle as you might
This door stays ajar, open and flooding streams of hopelessness
These wave bearing questions appear without discern, uninvited
But before you can answer to your emptiness
More consume the under-lying crisis in haste, regardless of thought
Before your deceased feeling of worth can even take a breath
You're totally engulfed in anguish, the pain is too immense
Never mind eating, for the body desires no sustenance
It is coupled harmoniously with the spirit
Visions of what were in the past, long-ago
Glare endlessly across misted, fog filled eyes
Clouded thoughts scream to be heard while emotion stirs
Only to fall upon deafen, muted pleads,
You look downward, only to observe your shadow
Wallowing, drowning helplessly in a pool of tears
Not a dam in the whole of human race can seize or restrain it
Mindless wanderings prevail as your set adrift silently saddened
It tears at your essence, while you try to justify the equation
A pain that will always seem to linger, torments and beckons
While all along, unknowingly, it leaves permanent scars on the heart
