This isn't terrible, it's human emotion and human instinct. It's only terrible if you let it continue. Many women have problems connecting sex and love, some seek sex to fill the void of love, and when it seems they are in love or have been convinced they are in love, they automatically think sex is a requirement. And when they realize what kind of a man this person they are in love with really is, they think they can just go on doing what they do and eventually the man will fall in love with them. I know that sounds like a bunch of b.s., and maybe it is, but it makes sense to me. I've been going through stuff like this, it's complicated but after I heard the whole story from someone elses mouth, I realized I was substituting sex for a part of my life that is missing.
