Single Mum

Physically exhausted, an emotional wreck,
Left with a trump card from a full deck,
Chain smoking, coffee drinking, what a life,
So this is what it meant to be someones wife,

She was once beautful, warm eyes, loving smile,
All disappeared in such a short while,
Who'd believe that bride full of hope,
Would become this woman who just can't cope,

Light dimmed in her eyes, they're hard and cold,
She's only 35 but she looks so old,
Three kids, a mortgage and bills to pay,
I guess are what made her this way,

But what happened to her knight in shining armour,
That handsome groom,that was such a charmer,
He left her after over 10 years together,
His feelings fickle like the changing weather,

So now this woman with kids is a single mum,
and look at what it is she's become,
It's a struggle for her to even get out of bed,
She'd rather lie there getting drunk instead,

Her children running the house around her,
In her drunken state everyday's a blur,
She can't bear to look at herself as she is now,
She got like this but she can't remember how,

She doesn't want her life to be this way,
But until she changes this is how it'll stay,
She does love her children ever so much,
It's just that with reality she's lost touch,

She wants to be a real mother to them,
So she starts trying to give up drinking again,
But what she doesn't remember is that yesterday,
Social services took her children away.
