Anniversary Rose

by Raychil   Jun 28, 2006

There once was a woman
Who everyone knew
She'd go to the park each day
And just sit there for an hour or two

No one really understood why
She wasn't mental in any way
However they noticed this one red rose
That she pinned to her clothes everyday

One day while in the park
Sitting there like she always would
Someone decided to ask her
To explain herself if she could

The woman looked up to her
Sadness flashed over her face
And she began to tell her story
Of the memory she refuses to erase

"It happened quite a while ago
Today makes it one year"
Her voice began to tremble
Her eyes filled up with tears

"It was our 12th anniversary
He had been out all day
I thought that maybe he simply forgot
I wasn't expecting things to go that way"

"I had been preparing dinner
To maybe spark his mind
But during the time he's usually home
He was no where I could find"

She took in a breath
As a tear rolled down her cheek
As more people gathered around
To hear the woman speak

"It was starting to get late
When the phone started to ring
I was told to come here quick
And that the sight might sting"

"I quickly rushed to this spot
And saw two cars that had crashed
I only saw one of the drivers
And he was completely thrashed"

"I walked over to the policeman
Asked him why he called me here
He just lowered his head
My heart filled up with fear"

"I saw my husband on the stretcher
And I ran to him and cried
He placed this rose in my hand
And after that he died"

Her tears were flowing down her face
She ducked her head down
The people there were in awe
But no one made a sound

"They took him away in the ambulance
Though I knew he was already with God
The next thing that happened
Was actually quite odd"

"I sat down on this bench here
All I wanted to do was die
But I felt my hand touch something
And what I saw made me want to cry"

"There on the bench was a letter
That read "To My Dearest Love"
I couldn't believe it at first,
But I knew it was sent from above"

The woman's tears began to stop
A smile soon appeared
No one took notice of it though
The end of the story had neared

"In the letter wasn't much
But it was just perfect for me
It read a simple five words:
I Love You. Happy Anniversary."

People stood still in silence
Until the woman finally arose
No one questioned as she walked away
Wearing the same red rose..

*To the people who read my work, this might be my last poem for a few days because I'm going camping (woot woot) but I'll be sure to have some new ones posted when I get back and I'll try to post maybe another one before I leave.

That was one strange extremely cool poem. The whole story concept was nice. The thing with the letter and rose was in fact well done. Really, really good. It had a nice flow and some words that went well with it.

Great poem- I loved how it told a story-the poem flowed nicely and definately kept my attention! The only thing I found that you might want to change is:

"And saw to cars that had crashed"
    The "to" should be "two"
Its not really a big deal but I thought I'd mention it anyway.

5/5 on the poem-I really enjoyed it
