Foreign Familiarities

by Jemma   Jun 28, 2006

I was stranded in those strange places
It was as though my world had been turned upside down
On reflection I guess things weren't so bad
But back then I did not understand
It was a tainted wonder to find you again
Memories of the times we shared
But also that unnamed fear
That it would all end as it did once before
Looking into your eyes, they seemed hollow
And through them I felt your pain
It has become as familiar to me as the sun
The same grief that ate away at me
But that was before
When I understood myself
When I had none of my subtle complexities
When I had none of the shadows that rest in my eyes
Before I found those strange places
Where I felt lost
Thrashed upon the rocks in their stolen ships
Finding you and your foreign familiarities
