Aftermath

by Somber Esprit   Jun 29, 2006

Fire, destruction, carnage,
Disaster, mayhem, death
Five thousand years and pent up rage,
Discharged, with lashing fury.

People living placid, lives
Nestled humbley at your foot,
Your noxious, firey hate disgorged
Rushes down your jagged slopes.

Confusion and terror reign below
People fleeing for their lives,
You flaming hell engulfs their world,
Incinerating all.

Ten years on, the town long gone,
The land a barren waste,
Ruins of life and love remain,
Forsaken in the haste.

A layer of ash coating the land,
A blanket on the earth,
Once smothered all, extinguished life,
Now fertile, rich, and giving birth.

Timid green shoots push up their heads,
Leaves reaching for the sky,
Roots embeded in the dust,
Life born from smoldering death.

Not far into the future,
A new settlement will grow,
On a land made fertile by your wrath,
A wrath these people will oneday know.

But for now they'll live their peaceful lives,
In blissful ignorance,
Unaware how quickly life can change,
... unaware of chaos and death...

A well writen poem it flows very well and has some good detail but I would have liked to have known what caused the disaster.
