A 20 Year Old

A Twenty Year Old

A 20 year old lies down in his cell
he looks at the same wall every morning
wishing he was in hell

all this because of some stupid gang
who taught him that in life the most important thing in life was to bang
and to prove his bravery killed another human being

he wishes he could undo what he has done
try to take back his careless actions
because that is the reason why his freedom is gone he wakes up to the same daily routine
the same people around him
nothing new to see he no longer has a name
in jail he is only an eleven digit number
he is another bad statistic of a person of color

he prays to god to please forgive him
to give him another chance
he fears though that he will never be forgiven
for murder is the biggest sin

first degree murder and life in jail
he wont be able to see his baby grow
he doesnt have a chance at bail

a baby without a father
tears from a sad angry mother
and a twenty year old lives in his cell in sorrow
