Once Upon A Time

by Aurelie Fletcher   Jul 2, 2006

Once upon a time
There lived a young girl
Rich and lovely
With ropes of pearls

Her mother feared
She would grow up one day
As all children do
There was nothing she could say

Soon she was older
A young, talented lady
Enraptured by her beauty
Men followed her endlessly

Which one to choose?
There were so many
Rich generals and landlords
She could pick any!

But she was not interested
Her eye was somewhere else
In the stable shed
Driven by impulse

The young stable boy
Handsome, though poor
She did not mind his poverty
And watched him from her door

Nights under the moon
Roaming the country side
The joy they spent together
She was his secret bride

Not for long
Did their secret relationship hold
Her family found out
And she was thrust into the cold

Now poor and hungry
She wandered around homelessly
Looking for her lover
Among the dirt and fleas

She never did find him
Lost and saddened with grief
She died with no hope
With pain and disbelief

As she closed her eyelids
The last time in her life
There stood a shining shadow
At the doorway to afterlife

Come my sweet child
Come meet your lover
Reunited again
Now and forever
