The Hand That Held Me Up

by put the [boom boom] into my heart   Jul 3, 2006

Like staring down a dark hall,
Or a never ending hole.
Missing you takes me over,
Like water spilling and filling my lungs-

One after the other.

I'll cough it up,
And go back to gasping for air.
My eyes are stapled shut,
And I can't see where you're going.

As that heart of yours that I can't save wastes away into nothing,
My stomach twists and turns,
And makes me double-over and spill my guts-

Without you even giving me a second glance.

Like how you always pick me up,
Then push me back down and farther away,
And banish my feelings into eternal exile from your mind.

My eyes will always tear and burn,
From only the memory of the scent of your cologne.

Youâ??re sitting two feet away from me,
But your mangled, shattered heart is miles away.
I want to reach out and grasp your hand,
But it would only crumble into a pile of painful pieces-

Right before my eyes.

Your words break my bones and incinerate my passion into ashes.
So keep pulling the string that you used to stitch up my rag-doll heart,
And I'll unravel into what you've made me become.

I thought I needed you,
But now I'm sure I was wrong...
