Fathers New Fate

by Shannon   Jul 5, 2006

Our father is headed to prison you see
Poor decisions have landed him this new fate
Time it seems will stand still
Until he is free to walk through the freedom gate

How are you today?
I wonder each instant
The place you have found yourself
I would rather not consent

The victims, the lies
The non-abiding way of life
Are all to blame
For this painful ending and strife

I miss you and will always love you
Though at times I do feel defeated
Yet continue to remind myself
Think of those whom Dad cheated

While locked up and away
Tuesdays you devote to me
The more important things
You say you have come to see

If only you would have realized
Where your actions would soon lead
Tuesdays we could have spent together…
Just you and me

One never knows what the next day will bring
Life will not again be the way we once knew
That life I would not choose to ever have back
It was, you see, all too blue

Your new fate has muddled your children
We are so very torn
The past has caused so much pain
We do appear to be forlorn

Side with mom; no side with Dad
Says this sibling and that
We feel indebted to you both please know
This causes us to rise against each other in combat

Our father is headed to prison you see
Who would have ever thought
As grown children
We would be so affected and distraught

I cannot say we did not see this coming
We did, oh how we did
Nonetheless, we would like it to go away
Can we give it up for bid?
