What Was Once Had...

by Jaclyn   Jul 6, 2006

What was once had
Is now but a distant memory
Fading into the every growing blackness
That surrounds a heart that once beat true

Was not but the little things that ate at the soul
And when one went to use it again
Found that it had been eaten by the ever growing darkness
Fading to but a shadow of what was

What was once had
Shattered to a shard of truth
Lies becoming a searing caress
A feather touch along the body
Deep seeded words wrapped in deceit

Silent tears down a delicate cheek
Rose red lips part to a sob
Fragile body racked in agony
Ebony hair cascade to beauty

What was once had
Hatred pulling downwards
Spurring a life of pain
Tranquil happiness
A doubled edged knife

Deep scarlet droplets fall to the floor
Nothing idle in despair
Blackness an ever growing light
The faint hearted turn their heads

What was once had
Now in the dark reach of life stilled eyes
In the end
Not all that much matters
