I Can't Believe It

by GoddessOfWings   Jul 6, 2006

Gentle tomorrow's of friendship slowly drift on by
and I stand tall by your side ever-loyally
and like a new, golden dawn for a new day
a strange yet blinding emotion arises inside of me.
Like the heavenly moon to her stars
I shall always shine for you, even if the mist blocks you from my sight
although recently I have often be standing in the shadow
to investigate this new change, I am here.
My eyes are being re-written with new adjectives
and my heart is being re-shaped with a thousand verbs
and with a boost of bravery, I step out of the darkness
to reveal to you the secret that I have caged within.

But... You know that I'm here, yet you don't seem to see me,
And... You listen to my voice, but aren't hearing my words,
Now... You see me smile at you, but are oblivious to it's meaning,
I can't believe it
Every time that I'm with you, it's as though I'm an invisible being.

Like a helpless animal, I cower away to my shelter
in sudden refusal and denial to my wishes
I smiled at you, and you smiled straight past me
your arrow of affection pierced the flesh of another.
I stand, hand in pockets, and contemplate with blank words in my eyes
my heart has been left in a sculpture of unfinished work
and I insecurely battle with myself as I watch you
from my shadow of silent, lonely safety.

But... You know that I'm here, yet you don't seem to see me,
And... You listen to my voice, but aren't hearing my words,
Now... You see me smile at you, but are oblivious to it's meaning,
I can't believe it
Every time that I'm with you, it's as though I'm an invisible being.

Not one tear have I ever shed for the sake of love
and though I stand here with strong walls around my mutilated heart
I can feel the nails of suffering stroking at its door
but I bite my lip and lean back against the wall, away from you.
Can she recognize your different types of smiles?
Was she the one who was there when you lost your last tooth?
Can she recite the lines you spoke in your school play?
Would she stay away and go through what I am, for you?

But... You know that I'm here, yet you don't seem to see me,
And... You listen to my voice, but aren't hearing my words,
Now... You see me smile at you, but are oblivious to it's meaning,
I can't believe it
Every time that I'm with you, it's as though I'm an invisible being.

That is really beautifully and sadly it can be true. Like the mailman is an invible person that we see each day but don't always notice. Ever important but blends in with the woodwork. Kind of like a housewife who can seem like part of the house.
