Perfume

by lexie   Jul 8, 2006

She says shes going out,
with just a good friend,
but i can smell that perfume,
the exact one i gave her,
on a cold December morning,
she smiled and tried it,
little did i know,
i would smell it as she walked out,
almost every weekend night,
my brothers don't notice,
they are to young,
how are they suppose to know,
or even begin to understand,
i look to the sky as she leaves the house,
"keep her safe,"
not another abusive man,
not another one,
no more screaming,
i cant stand it anymore,
if she came home,
with another one for me to meet,
i think i'll break into tears,
for every time she gets hurt more,
and so do we,
i dont want this anymore,
i just want to have her home,
but shes walking out the door,
and i cant take it anymore,
i go into her room,
and throw it out the door,
glass shatters,
liquid spills,
she turns,
as we both look to the pavement,
at that bottle of perfume.

    Hmm. Wow.

I'm a little lost though. Who's talking in this poem.

Other than that, I love the poem.

Wow, this should go under the sad section. Perfume has such a 'strong' effect on people. I am usually dazzled when my girlfriend puts on her perfume. It reminds me of her. It's as if she was there with me. This poem, brought out the bad in perfume. Bringing home an abusive man. I am guessing you are speaking about your mom. It's hard being a single parent, give her the support she needs and deserves. Take care and good luck.
