A Shadow

Itâ??s what she is
Itâ??s who she is
She is nothing but a shadow
She walks to halls of school
She sees everyone else
As she sees them talking and laughing
She thinks of her friends
But never do they speak
As the years pass
They football games are won
The dances come and go
The arguments arouse
Friends fight
And friends are made
She remain in the shadows
Never to let anyone know of her existence
You see her
But do you really?
What do you see when you look at her?
You see her body
But you donâ??t see her heart
She hides amongst the shadows everyday
Being a girl everyone thinks
Is happy when really
Sheâ??s crying out for help
But her cry is silenced by the need of others
For her to be there for them
She puts on a smile
She lends a hand
Bandages a wound
Helps with the homework
Comforts the sad
And passes through each day
Just to live another
Until a day when she can finally take a rest
And not have to have a care in the world
Besides herself
She fears being self- centered
She fears being a prep
Thatâ??s not what she wants
She wants to help others
And always puts them before her
Never taking a chance to dance
Only to help those who need her
In the hope for a day she may see the sun
And know that she too is cared for
But will that day ever come?
She doubts it
A day like that
Has long been awaited
But she will meet someone
Who loves her
And cares about her
And only concern will be her
She awaits that day
To finally be able to relax
And know she is loved
Until then
She hides amongst the shadows
Watching the days go by
Pinning a smile to her face
When sheâ??d rather cry
Growing weary of holding everyone else up
But the thought of being on of THEM
Drives her forward and she holds them up
She is a pillar of strength
But when she falls
Who will hold her up?
Never does she cry
Never does she sigh
Never does she frown
She always keeps a smile
Pinned to her face
In the prayer to keep everyone happy
For thatâ??s all she wants
Her friends to be happy
And she would give her life for them
But is she really happy?
If you look close enough you will see the crack in her shield
The tiny flaws
At first glance
She seems perfect
But when you grow close to her
You see the little things
You see her face
You see the smile
You know what the smile means
But does she really feel that?
If you look at her you will be able to tell
That she is flawed in so many ways
But yet she is still there
Holding everyone else up
Putting them before herself
Sacrificing everything for everyone else
Never taking a chance to truly be happy
Never taking a chance to have fun
Never taking a chance to be somebody
She walks among the shadows
She is a person
But yet she walks among the shadows
Never speaking
Never showing her existence
She stands there
And moves on
And you see her
But you donâ??t
She is a shadow
Itâ??s what she is
Itâ??s who she is.
She has a heart of gold
But yet she is shy
And insecure
She stands up and helps others
When they need her the most
She cares not for herself
But only for the ones around her that she cares for
