Don't Forget

by Jill Blessing   Jul 9, 2006

One day life stopped
The tragedy and devastation
The fire and smoke
The dust
The tears

Of it all - the death
the pictures we saw
the stories we heard
the sadness of it all
our Nation cried.

Shocking
Chaotic
Monstrous
Inhumane
Insane.

The news rang out
A call for help
Broken bodies
Broken lives
Broken hearts.

And in an instant
a cry from a Nation
A cry of despair
A cry of outrage
A cry of sympathy
A cry of dignity
A cry of unity.

Then Ol' Glory rose to life
Telling the world
"We will not fall"
"We will not divide"
There is always Hope.

For we are ONE
and we are STRONG
We are a proud Nation
Under God.

We believe in what's right
and fight against wrong
We hold to one another
to keep us moving on.

Don't tread on us
and don't count us out
For we will rise from this heartbreak
We will dry out tears
and wipe our brows of sweat.

We will remember this moment
for we are ONE. . . .
One victim
One family
One daughter
One son.

One Nation under God
and we will not divide
But we will overcome!
