I remember looking up
From my entire
3'4"
at the man holding my hand
You looked so tall
To my four year old self
Appearing larger than you are
You looked big enough to save the world
From the goblin in my closet
Or the monster under my bed
Leaving me safe to sleep at night.
Now I throw myself to either side
of my mattress
Wondering what happened?
How did my hero
Become my obstacle
How did my support
Become my downfall.
How did my life become this?
I'll apologize if I did something
And if it's my fault I'll take the blame
But I just hate
the way this happened
and the way my father's changed.
