Little Jillian came home from school
And ran to find here dad
He picked her up and held her
As she talked about the day she had

She said "daddy there's a new boy"
"His name is Anthony James"
"I accidentally bumped into him"
"And he started to call me names"

"Then at recess I saw him again"
"He said sorry and gave me daisy"
"I just dropped it and walked away"
"I think that boy is crazy!"

Her daddy chuckled and smiled
How cute his 7 year old could be
Her kissed her forehead and sat down
And he held her on his knee

They always did this after school
While they waited for mom to cook
They'd talk about school or watch TV
Or sometimes he read her a book

He said "Jillian, maybe he likes you"
She said "daddy, that's gross"
He just started to laugh
From the way she wrinkled her nose

She said "daddy, boys are icky"
He said "well, what about me?"
She said "daddy, that's different"
"You're my dad and always will be"

A couple years flew by
Jillian was now 13
She and her dad were still close
Just like they always had been

Jillian and Anthony were friends now
Actually they were going out
When he asked her out on a date
There was nothing else she'd talk about

They had gone to see a movie
She said she'd be home by midnight
Her mom was fine and had gone to bed
But her dad worried all night

When she finally walked in the door
Her dad was on the couch waiting
It was 11:45 and she just smiled
She knew he didn't like her dating

She went over and sat on his knee
Just like she used to do
She looked at him and gave him a hug
He said "Jillian, you know I love you"

She smiled and said "daddy, boys are icky"
He said "well, what about me?"
She said "daddy, that's different"
"You're my dad and always will be"

10 more years went by fast
Anthony had finally proposed
The marriage date was set in place
It was time to let go her dad supposed

When the marrying day came along
Jillian was dressed and beautiful as could be
She walked over to her dad in the pew
And sat down on his knee

Her dad had tears in his eyes
As he kissed her forehead and sat there
She smiled at him and gave him a hug
Like the ones they used to share

She smiled and said "daddy, boys are icky"
He said "well, what about me?"
She said "daddy, that's different"
"You're my dad and always will be"

Tears slid down their faces
As the music started to play
Her dad walked her up the aisle
On this sad and wonderful day

Jillian and Anthony were wed
It was time for her new life to begin
She only hoped that she could be
The parent her dad had been.
