I Could Never Be Her. [PART 2]

As her lips press upon yours,
I feel mascara run down my cheeks.
I feel my heart slowing dropping,
Bringing me down to my knees.

When did I feel so much pressure?
To give into death’s demand?
While I watch you kiss her gently,
Holding on to her soft hands.

I’ll walk away again, forever,
Back to diets and magazines.
I’ll shove a toothbrush down my throat,
So I can be your beauty queen.

I want to be everything you want,
Everything you’ll ever need.
I want to be the girl you point to,
I want to be the air you breathe.

I’ll pick the mirror up off the floor,
Look at the broken, shining piece.
Open the drawer of the love notes,
Spread them out, and unfold the creases.

“Dear, Darling, how I love you.”
How many girls did you fool with that line?
You’ve probably become the master of your game,
I was foolish to believe you were mine.

Then I’ll head off to the bathroom,
Smear the make-up of my face.
What a foolish girl I was,
What an emotional waste.

Then the cell phone jingles,
It’s our song, so you say.
I liked you better two hours ago, baby.
Things were better off, I say.

But I’ll answer just one last time.
Just one last time to hear your voice.
The gamble is over, and death has won.
Now I have no choice.

“Hey, baby, where are you?
I didn’t see you downtown.”
“Oh, I’m sorry, honey,” I whisper.
“But, something came around.”

There’s a pause on the other line,
He let’s out a long sigh.
“I miss you and I love you,”
“I really wanted to see you tonight.”

Such a foolish girl I am.
Too weak and giving in.
“Baby, I’ll see you soon.”
“I’ll be downtown in ten.”

Just one slit before I go.
As I see that kiss through all the blur.
I wish that girl would feel what I’m doing.
I wish I could be her.
