Grandpa Part 4

Today is the final good-bye
People becoming weak
In the knees
As their grief weighs them down

The casket closed
The light gone
The prayers staying
The tears coming
The shout of the hawk above
The bags of the guns
The salutes for the fallen solider

Standing together
Holding hands
As we remember long ago

Walking up
Resting my hand
On the solid oak bed
Planting a kiss
Whispering I'll see you again

Placing a rose
In my place
I close my eyes
Fighting back the
Acid tears

Walking back
I lift my head
To the heavens above
Knowing that you are
Looking down at us all

I pray one more time
As they lower you
Your love, hope, faith going down with you
Six feet under

I smile
Knowing that you didn't go down
Without a fight
The fallen soldier
