Surrender

*written for Tessa's title contest*

Surrender is a nasty word
that says we couldn't take it
'Surrender' reads the weak man's sign
declares he couldn't make it.

Wisdom is not giving up
Surrender need not cripple
In the lake of life my friend,
Your doubt won't cause a ripple.

Knowing when you've lost the fight
Is winning half the war
Knowing that you'll be all right
Is what you're fighting for.

Knowing when your day is done
Will stop your hands from shaking.
Knowing when to look away
will stop your heart from breaking

Knowing when to turn and run,
to stifle your hurt laughter
Is knowing how to save your soul
for the dream that might come after.

Surrender is a nasty word
that's says we couldn't make it
Wisdom is the war zone where
we learn we cannot fake it.
