What Went Wrong

by *colorsofmylife*   Jul 14, 2006

Sitting in a cold, empty room once more
wondering if this time will be any different
all the tests seem to merge together
though the answers are left uncertain

There are doctors looming in the halls
their voices can be heard over the beeping heart monitor
a young woman ventures into the room
while the others wait for a reaction

She speaks slowly and clearly
using medical terms only an expert would understand
only one work is ever heard
one which would stop any heart dead

Is this really the truth? It can't be!
tears begin to accumulate; she continues her story
mentions hope every now and again
but one cannot see it when looking death in the face

The people in the hall begin to file in
offering every treatment option available
never noting a survival rate
or if it is worth trying at all

Walking out of the office that day
such a heavy burden placed upon the shoulders
realizing treatment is the only choice
and knowing that one must have faith

The road ahead is anything but smooth
as each session comes and goes
being sick is an everyday affair
however the numbers begin to slip away

After a long three years of battling
the disease finally disappears
setting the body free of pain
and the mind from this prison

Life is an undescriptive treasure
always leaving another obstacle to overcome
though without it none of us would be here today
to experience the wonders it supplies

    Powerful message!
This is so inspiring. It reminds me of a friend of mine who was recently diagnosed with cancer. He's in the last stages of chemo and he's been just so upbeat throughout it all. He's quite an inspiration to me as is this poem.
Take care and keep it up~Holly
