I Couldn't

by Megan   Jul 17, 2006

[The second of a trilogy]

Staring out my window
Watching as the rain falls,
I collapse to the ground
And start to cry again
The images are still embedded
Deep inside my mind
I can still see my baby
Horrified face staring
At me, begging me to
Help her, save her
I can still hear my baby
Screams of pain and terror

I couldn't help her!
I couldn't save her!

He took my love in his arms
I thought he loved her
Then he threw my love down
I tried to help her,
But big arms grabbed me
She begged him to stop,
But he just wouldn't
I tried to break free,
But I was now chained
Her cries slowly became
Fainter, till they finally
Became silent cries
Tears slowly slid
Down her pale face

I couldn't help her!
I couldn't save her!

I was horrified by what
I was seeing
I couldn't look away
He finally lifted his
Body from hers
She didn't move
I screamed her name
In hopes she would
Turn to see what
I wanted, but she
Didn't even flinch

I couldn't help her!
I couldn't save her!

He kicked her
She didn't flinch
He signaled for
Me to be released
I ran to her side
Brushed the hair out
Of her face and
Begged for her to
Do something anything
But she didn't move

I couldn't help her!
I couldn't save her!

As I cried,
Cradling her body
Close to mine
The police started
To arrive to the
Horrific scene
They wrote down
My account
Then sent me away
Now I forever sit
In my window
Staring at the spot

I couldn't help her!
I couldn't save her!
