Stripped Innocense

by allie   Jul 17, 2006

A little girl looks up
and sees the woman and the man

the mommy so strong with the heart of gold
fearless spider killer, brave in dark rooms
the perfect words
the steady hand
the magic kiss
to heal the child's every woe

the daddy so kind though stern at times
doing dirty jobs, strong at all times
the sturdy hugs
the tough love
the beloved praise
to be the super dad

but the girl grew up
and the view changed
she saw just what was true

the mom was weak with a broken heard
she had her fears and wasn't quite so brave
she struggled for the right words
she trembled
she hurt inside
the girl watched her mom cry

the dad got mad and yelled too much
he sat on the couch with his aches and pains
he grew distant and forgot to hug
he tried to buy love
he criticized
the girl saw her dad in pain

that is not how it is supposed to be
but the innocence
truth stripped away

mommy can't dry her baby's tears anymore
daddy can't make the monsters go away
a baby is thrown into a cruel twisted world
and alone she must learn to fly
