False romance

by jess destroy earth   Jul 19, 2006

Embraced within your arms
without a single care
a soft night breeze
blows through my hair

the moon and stars above us
the grass beneath our toes
you crouch to the ground
and uproot a dark red rose

then you kneel on your right knee
and with your empty hand
your soft brown eyes melt in mine
as you pull out a wedding band

"I love you more than anything
we're simply meant to be
i want to spend my life with you
will you marry me?"

I gently clutch my stomach
from all the butterflies
then suddenly the dark red rose
seems to wilt and die

my sleepy eyes peer open
and as perfect as it seemed
it was nothing but an illusion
a memory, a dream.
