Tropical Diamond

by Prolific Angel   Jul 19, 2006

I am the glistening blue sea, I am the melody of the sun, the island itself
I am the sand that so easily sifts through my hand, lying upon the homeland
I am the star that shines with a blinding light, through a cold, dark, lonely, and merciless night
I feel the fall yet rise over all
I am the diamond that is cut but never shattered
I am the water that smoothly moves at will; never displaced by force
I am the anatomy of a strong black woman
I am what god says I am
I will not be counted as another black statistic
i will not be an individual that lyrically speaks but never listens
I will focus on the future and remember the past
I WILL be the first, though beginning from the last
I will be called an INDIVIDUAL not an outcast
I will not be catagorized by Tims and Rims
I will not be professianly stereo-typed by suits and ties
I will not be defined by my hip and thighs
Though I may be despised for my lips and eyes
I am the change, the long-term dream
I am the compass, I represent in all directions
I am Jamacia, Mississippi, Canada, California, Missouri, Germany, France, Spain, Africa, Cherokee and Black foot territory
I am not afraid to b the complication, to represent the nation, to spark the conversation, or to stop the confrontation
I know what I am and where I came from
I know what I've done and what I will do
I know what I haven't done or won't do, despite the talk
I know where I've been and I can see where I'm going
I know who I am
