I had a chat with friends of mine the other day you know,
We talked about our childhood days which seem so long ago.
Our favorite games, the music, clothes, the bike rides in the rain
But then the conversation took a far more serious vein....
Where have all the sweeties gone, the ones we used to chew
They'e simply disappeared or now been named as something new.
Big Texan bars and chocolate mice and creamy caramac
And what about those Spangles? Oh I wish they'd bring them back
Sherbet lemons, cola cubes and little sherbet pips
That lovely strawberry lolly that you found in sherbet dips!!
Walnut whips were wonderful...ah yes in days now past...
I'd scoop out all the creamy stuff and save the nut till last.
That crackling fizzy feeling of some space dust on the tongue
I've scoured the shops for rainbow drops I loved when I was young
Tutti Fruttis, floral gums and luscious chocolate limes
Cherry lips and chewing nuts...ah yes, those were good times!!
Poppets and pacers and revels and treets
And a finger of fudge were my favorite sweets
Cadbur's,curlywurlys I just couldn't get enough
Flying saucers, cardboard tasting , filled inside with fizzy stuff.
Chocolate buttons, minstrels, parma violets, midget gems
And liquorice torpedoes....anyone remember them?
I know this sounds quite silly but ever since they changed the name
Those opal fruits and star bars just don't seem to taste the same
Remember Highland toffee? It was really kind of cool
In the winter you could snap it, in the summer chew and pull
Chewy drumstick lollipops, and what of Rhubarb Rock
Now that was just the ticket for an instant sugar shock!!
Ooooh, thinking of these sweet delights just makes my stomach groan
But please just let me clarify.....MY TEETH ARE ALL MY OWN!!
