The girl in the mirror

by Hey Brittknee   Jul 21, 2006

The girl in the mirror
Is one I wish I didn't know
She's too ugly to be pretty
She'll never let her face show

She cuts out pictures
And hangs them on her wall
Of the bodies that she wishes she could have
Not fat, just skinny and tall

The face she sees in the mirror
Is not one she wants to see
The one on the cover of her favorite magazine
Is the one she wishes she could be

She'll take a picture of herself
And she'll cross out all the parts that are bad
And when every part is finally crossed out
To look at it only makes her more sad

She looks at his new girlfriend
And says "Why couldn't I be her?"
"If I was her he'd like me."
"And I'd be pretty that's for sure."

That girl is pretty and she's flawless
And when dancing never misses a beat
And while she's busy watching her
He's busy sweeping that girl off her feet

And she'll rush home to her room
Only to continue to cry
She just can't stand it any longer
And the mascara runs down her eyes

She wants to be perfect
But that's something she'll never feel
For, her mind within her body
Doesn't process that it can be real

She will never feel good about herself
She will never feel proud
She will never want to be the real her
When she sees all the beautiful girls around

She'll tear up al the pictures
Of the models on her wall
She'll slowly begin to crumble
And to the ground she'll fall

She even knows what's gonna happen
This girl is gonna break
Why did this have to be real
Why couldn't it have been fake

Why can't she be perfect
Why can't she be pretty and nice
And this is to any girl out there
Please try and take my advice

This is to any girl out there
Who can't get back up when she falls
To any girl out there
Who thinks she's not pretty at all

To any girl out there
That looks in the mirror and grabs her fat
And thinks "How disgusting."
I know, I've been where you're at

To any girl out there
Who wishes she could be someone else
All you have to do
Is just try and live to be yourself

Try and make changes
But don't do too much
Do you really need anything to make you pretty
Like tons of make-up and such?

Just wear your best smile
That's all you have to do
Because a real true smile
Can light up a room

And with a smile like that girl
It's for sure
That you don't have to be pretty
You've got way much more

This is a very inspiring poem. and it is true, one good smile can light up a room. once again, rhyming and flow are right on. for any girl that thinks she is ugly...just remember, if you are good person and being the best you can be...you are one of the most beautiful girls in the world.

when i first started reading this poem, i expected it to be very sad, which it was, but...you started changing it to more of an inspiration poem, which i can really appreciate. i must say, i was having a kind of bad day, but then i read this, and i already feel a little better...this is definately going on my fav. poems and you can count on me reading it when i am down!

I loved the ending to the poem. Although some of the lines sounded like you added them only to rhyme the majority of the poem was amazing. I loved that you wrote that all you need to wear is your best smile and not all the makeup to cover everything up. 4/5
