A maiden fair walked along a lakes edge
she knelt down in the tall grasses
and peered over the ledge
She stared until the tears came to her greenest of green eyes
as she kept staring trying to force herself to see
she hadn't become what she had always despised
But it was as evident as the sun rising in the the dawnlit sky
That she could no longer live
But neither could she die
She had gone to far in her quest for the answers that should not be revealed
She opened the forbidden door
That had always been sealed
She asked herself if it was worth the price
Her humanity for the answer that had haunted her torn at her soul
Until she drew her blood for nothing else would suffice
She had gone down a dark path
Following the vilest of vile spells until her name became
A curse among the peoples tounges for the fear of her wrath
No more could she feel the warmth of the sun
Or the touch of the cool air dancing on her fair skin
Warmth had faded but the numbing cold had just begun
With a wry smile she wiped away the tears
And she watched the liquid sadness create a ripple on the still surface of the foreboding lake
As a cold gust of realization hit her, she knew that her reality was her biggest fear
"Take me now! Strike my cold black heart!
Please I beg of you to kill me, end it as only you could
I'll be a satisfying meal of flesh just tear me apart!"
This malicious bird considered her plea
Just for a moment and swooped low
Already tasting her cool flesh, he wanted it to be
She closed her emerald eyes that were full to the brim
And bit back a scream as the raven struck her heart
laughing quietly as the light within her became dim.
This was her cruel and painful end
She who had scorned love in favor of darkness
Yearned for a friend
She wished with all her might
That she wouldn't have let darkness taken hold
That she would have put up a fight
It had taken her half a century to cry
To be able to love again, to be able to truely breathe
To be able to die
She breathed in one more short gasp
And opened her lovely green eyes
And as the tears rolled down her face she quietly became part of the past.
