Jack

by ~*~ April ~*~   Jul 29, 2006

The stained photographs from my dusty album
Remind me of Jacks young old soul
Who went to war with the Aussie troops
And finally had to pay his toll

The hard helmets, his copper badge
Both glistened in the morning sun
But when the first body smacked the ground
He knew that the war had begun

The screaming faces the deafening shot
Roared like a lion in his ears
He dodged the darting shots of death
That brutally brought down his peers

A gun shot missed him by an inch
Rusty barbed wire makes him trip
The blooded stain ground engulfs his body
As drops of sweat roll down his lip

Determination lifts him up
As he staggers across no mans land
The final sniper then takes his shot
And Jack joins his mates buried in the sand

We now think of Jack as a great hero
Who fought for Australia, his home
But i think of Jack as a great soldier
Who fought through hell all alone.
